Maryland High School Football Huddle
Old Mill record-setting running back Rob Chesson is the 2011 Maryland Offensive Player of the Year. Chesson, who set a state record for touchdowns in a season with 49, led the Patriots to the state's 4A championship.
Good Counsel defensive back Stefon Diggs was named the state's Defensive Player of the Year.
Both Diggs and Chesson are also members of the 20th annual Consensus All-State team that was announced today.
River Hill head coach Brian Van Deusen, who led his school to the 3A state title earlier this month, shared Coach of the Year honors with Good Counsel's Rob Milloy, who's team finished high in most national polls after an undefeated season.
Five players repeated as all-state selections. They are: Gilman's Cyrus Jones and Brian Gaia, Dunbar's Deon-Tay McManus, Urbana's Colton Kmetz and Diggs.
There are five underclassmen on this year's squad.
