I-95 Kickoff Classic Doubles in Size

by Jeff Fisher
Maryland High School Football Huddle

Organizers of the I-95 Kickoff Classic, which features high school football teams from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., were so happy with last year's four-game event, that they've decided to add four more games to the 2011 schedule.

The game will be played over a three-day period starting on September 1st at Bowie State and Morgan State Universities.

One of the highlights will be a game between Virginia power Oscar Smith and Gilman on September 2nd. Gilman has won three Maryland state championships in the last five years.  Oscar Smith has lost only two regular season games in the past seven years.

Another highlight will be a rematch of the 2010 I-95 Kickoff Classic game between DeMatha and Loyola on Saturday.  DeMatha will be playing its first season in 29 years without head coach Bill McGregor, who resigned earlier this year.  DeMatha won last year's game 45-31.

Then there's the public vs. private school match-up between Baltimore City champ Patterson and Archbishop Curley also on Saturday.

Here's the schedule...
